**FOSTER HOMES NEEDED!**

Foster homes play an extremely important role in rescue. Without fosters, we would not be able to do the work that we do. Whenever our organization takes in a dog in need, the dog needs a place to stay while they are waiting to be adopted.

What is a foster home?

A foster home provides a safe place for a rescue dog to stay while awaiting adoption. Staying in a foster home vs. a shelter or boarding environment is extremely beneficial to the foster dog. Shelters and Boarding Facilities can be very stressful places for dogs. A home provides a quieter, more comfortable environment for the dog. When a dog is living in a foster home, they are getting the opportunity to learn and adapt to living in a home environment, too. Dogs who have lived in a home environment, prior to being adopted, tend to have a much easier time transitioning into a permanent home whenever they are adopted. This increases the chances of a successful adoption.

What IS Expected of a foster home?

Fosters are expected to provide the following:

  • A safe place for the dog to stay while awaiting adoption.

  • Food & Water

  • Love & Attention

Can I adopt my foster dog?

Yes, absolutely! If at any point in time you decide that you would like to keep your foster dog permanently all you have to do is let us know!

What does the rescue provide for dogs in foster care?

All of our dogs in foster homes are provided with the following items:

  • Medical/Veterinary Care

  • Monthly Heartworm Prevention

  • Collar & ID Tag

Items provided by Memphis Rottweiler Rescue on an “as needed” basis:

  • Kennel/Crate - if a foster does not already have a kennel/crate available to use for their foster dog, Memphis Rottweiler Rescue can provide a one for your foster dog.

  • Training/Behavioral Modification - if your foster dog has a behavioral issue and you are not sure how to modify/correct it, we will be happy to provide a trainer to assist you with your foster dog. The foster is not financially responsible the cost of training.

REQUIREMENTS for all foster parents

  • Must be 21 years of age or older

  • Agree To & Sign the “Dog Foster Agreement”

  • Provide a safe place for the dog to live while he or she awaits adoption.

  • Foster dogs should live inside the foster home. MRR does not place dogs in foster or permanent homes where the dog will be living outside, regardless of how the dog is being kept outdoors (in a fenced yard, on a chain, or in a pen).

  • Outdoor Activities - Foster dogs should only be off-leash whenever they are in a securely fenced-in area. Otherwise, we ask our fosters to please keep their foster dog on a leash whenever they are outdoors and not within a securely fenced in area.

  • Resident animals at the foster home should be current on vaccinations & spayed/neutered, with the exception of animals who are too young to be spayed/neutered yet or animals whose veterinarian has advised against spaying/neutering (whether just for the time being or for the duration of the animal’s life) due to the animal’s health / medical reasons.

Please consider opening your heart and home to a dog in need. Fostering Saves Live!
