Adoption Guidelines
You must be at least 21 years old to adopt from Memphis Rottweiler Rescue.
We do not adopt out dogs on a first come, first serve basis. Instead, we try to match each dog with the adopter whose home environment and lifestyle best fits the needs of that specific dog.
Homeowners & Renters
Homeowners - If you own your home, please be sure to check with your insurance provider to make sure that your homeowner’s insurance does not have any breed restrictions on your policy.
Renters - If you rent your home, we will need to contact your landlord to verify that you are allowed to have a Rottweiler or Pit Bull. Many apartment complexes and rental properties do not allow certain dog breeds (Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, Chow Chows, etc.), which is why we always to want to verify everything with your landlord first.
Service Area
MRR adopts out dogs within the Mid-South area, usually no more than 1-2 hours outside of Memphis, TN. We rarely adopt long distance due to limited resources. However, we do take each and every application into consideration!
How To Adopt
Adoption Application: We require all potential adopters to submit an adoption questionnaire first.
The information that you provide in the questionnaire will help us to determine which dog may be the best fit for your home and family. Each of our dogs is different from one another and several factors must be taken into consideration when placing a dog with an adopter.
These factors include, but are not limited to:
The dog’s behavior around dogs, cats, or other types of animals - Many dogs do well socializing and living with other dogs, as long as the other dogs are receptive of them. However, sometimes we have dogs who, for various reasons, may need to be placed in a home where they are the only dog. Sometimes we get dogs who can coexist peacefully with a cat, but other dogs cannot be safely placed in a home with a cat. The same goes for homes with horses, livestock, or exotic pets.
The dog’s behavior around kids - some dogs do great with kids, especially if they have lived in a household with children prior to coming into rescue. These dogs usually know to be gentle and cautious around smaller children. Other dogs, for various reasons, may be less suitable for homes with children. These dogs might like kids a lot, but do not realize their size and strength around smaller children and therefore would be better suited for a home without children or a home with much older kids.
The dog’s activity level - high energy dogs who require more daily activity and exercise would be better suited for an adopter who is very active and has the time to exercise their dog for an adequate amount of time each day.
If we do not have your information from the adoption questionnaire, then we will not know which of our dogs would even be suitable for your home. So, in an effort to not waste your time, our time, or our foster’s time, we do require that the adoption questionnaire be submitted first.
Note: Submitting an Adoption Questionnaire does not obligate you in any way to adopt from us. It is simply a starting point for the adoption process. After submitting your adoption questionnaire, if any of the dogs that might work well in your home do not appeal to you, that is ok!
Reference Checks: We require a vet reference and two personal references. We will contact your veterinarian to make sure that the other animals in the household are up to date on routine medical care. This is done to protect both existing pets and any potential MRR dog that may be joining your family.
Home Visit: The final step in the adoption process is the home visit, where we bring the dog to your home. We want to make sure our dogs are going into a home environment that is safe and secure for them. During this time we can also help you to properly introduce the dog to your current pets.
